Pottery has a magical appeal to me, moulded and shaped by hands. Hands are one of our modes of interpreting the physical world. I consider myself a tactile individual. I often run my fingers along desks, exterior walls, fabric, flower petals, grass, you name it, I’d probably touched it or thought of touching it. This informs my spatial awareness rooting me to reality. An intriguing note Kichizaemon makes in his video interview, ceramics is one of the few artisan works where the end product is left to nature, the firing. No matter the meticulousness in approach and experiential learnings he has acquired through his years of practice, along with the centuries of generational knowledge passed on to him, nature has the last say. What a powerful and profound philosophy of life.

I have admired her work for some time now even before I pursed my arts and design education abroad. Her innate ability to manifest dimensionality with the frequent use of hands - what can seem to be the only extensions of our minds that bring physicality and rooted nature -along with spherical, circular and curved lines - distantly profound objects that we know, but can never touch or grasp (our planet and the sun) - leaves me engrossed believing this dystopic realm. I am always in a space of wanting more of her work.

I was speaking with a colleague who comes from a Japanese background and I shared my deep appreciation for many things Japanese such as their architecture, design and art. You should know teamLab is one of my all-time favourite artist collectives in the world. I'll elaborate more on this resonance as time goes on.

He referred me to Ryoji and as I delved into his CV, I found multiple notes in his works that spoke me. I have some educational background in physics and generated from an obsession with space travel. I do follow SpaceX's developments quite closely with a stalkerish presence, but I'm sure they won't notice in this ocean of the internet. The scaling and systematic futuristic musical tone give rise to how I perceive the world. Quantify, quantify, quantify. I am predominantly in the constant state of needing to know. Curiosity killed the cat, as they say.

Mehr als Wohnen as it is called, a village within a city. I am in a bit of an outcry for these housing estates in Toronto. What is it about the Swiss culture that can predicate this idyllic urban housing solution? Architecturally, there are 13 housing blocks built by 13 different architecture firms, however, they can be considered relatives having uniformity with variation and charm. With the master plan given great attention, at the heart of the proposal are the people who will be living there. This is where the interior design and community facilitation flourish. In the beginnings, Futurafrosch and Duplex Architekten consulted future inhabitants, wider local community and sociologist, Corinna Heye for their compressive input in the development of this project. Much can be said to the intentionally tailored and diversified demographic of gender, age, ethnicity, income and other metrics. Canada, take note of this.
